Join New City in Covenant Partnership.
To be a member of a church is to make a public promise to live according to the Word of God and to support the work of a local congregation. We call this promise a covenant. Every Christian is part of the universal Body of Christ in the world (organism). But, only by making this public promise of "covenant partnership" does a person become part of a local church as organization. A covenant is the foundation for a healthy accountable relationship in marriage, society, church membership, and with God.
Membership in a church is not like membership in a club, store, or an organization. Most members of an organization are seen as consumers and the organization exists to serve them. The church of Jesus Christ is a counter cultural community where membership equates to ministry, service, love, accountability, and moving from a consumer, to a servant providing care and God's love toward others. At New City Church, we take seriously the motto: we are a church "for the city", and not ourselves. Covenant Partnership helps us live this out together in Kansas City.
Covenant Partnership (Membership) Process
There are three steps for becoming a Covenant Partner at New City Church.
Baptism is a prerequisite for covenant partnership.
STEP 1: GOSPEL FOUNDATIONS CLASS
Attend The Gospel Foundations Class led by our pastoral team. This class will be 90 minutes of teaching and 30 minutes of Question and Answer. There will be a resource guide "Vision Booklet" explaining our beliefs, convictions, affiliations, philosophy of ministry, and how to get involved with the church family. We will send a digital copy for you to peruse before the class.
STEP 2: COVENANT PARTNERSHIP INTERVIEW
After completing The Gospel Class you will make an appointment to meet with a pastor/elder for a 45-60 minute interview. The interview will focus on sharing your testimony, explaining the gospel in your own words, and an opportunity to ask any questions of the pastors/elders.
STEP 3: PUBLIC MEMBERSHIP VOWS AND BAPTISM
After approval by the elders/pastors, on an assigned Sunday worship service, you will publicly say your membership vows before the congregation. You will also be baptized if necessary.
STEP 4: RE-PRESENT JESUS IN OUR CITY
Now go and live as if it’s all true. Serve and represent Jesus in your home, work, church, neighborhood, and places of influence.
